AT THE BEGINNING OF TREATMENT

You will hear a slight hissing sound throughout treatment. This is the oxygen flowing into the chamber. Most patients feel a sensation similar flying in an airplane. It is common to feel pressure build in the ears. This can be alleviated by swallowing or yawning. Do not clear your ears with your nose pinched and mouth closed.

AT THE END OF TREATMENT

Please do not hold your breath and do breath normally during depressurization. If you feel a fullness in your ears, all you need to do is try swallowing or yawning. If you feel any pain, please communicate that immediately.

TIPS FOR ADJUSTING TO THE PRESSURE

After the hyperbaric chamber is sealed, please start to clear your ears immediately after the chamber starts pressurizing. If you are having difficulty clearing your ears, we can adjust the pressure. Be sure to communicate any ear pain/discomfort ASAP. We can decrease the pressure in the chamber until you are able to equalize the pressure in your ears. If you have no pain/discomfort, just give us a thumbs up!
