Meet Our Team
Dr. Christopher Boyhan
Welcome to AlignLife as I am glad you got here. Life has many seasons to it and during our journey we may get stuck in a perspective expressed through our health or lack thereof. For myself growing up with chronic asthma and allergies, medical doctors impressed upon me that I would never be able to play sports. I learned to overcome this obstacle and it is my mission to share my experience creating a bridge between health care and personal development. Please allow me to coach you through this storm for a change of season.
Dr. Boyhan was born and raised in Northern New Jersey where he was a competitive student athlete in both football and wrestling. He went onto play football for the University of Massachusetts only to have inconsistent health derail his athletic career. He earned his undergraduate degree in Sports Medicine from William Paterson University and he was awarded honors at Sherman College of Chiropractic where he earned his Doctorate degree. Prior to becoming a chiropractor, he had worked as an athletic trainer for ten years at the collegiate and high school levels. Ten years following that he worked as a medical device representative for orthopedic trauma and spinal surgery in the Northeast Territory. Dr. Boyhan enjoys reading, hiking, power lifting and spending time ‘doing his neurology homework,’ with his family. Together he and his wife Heather have two sons, Benjamin 9 and Luke 7 with a baby on the way, live in the Asheville, North Carolina
My journey into the mind body connection thoughtfully expressed itself during my undergraduate career studying anatomy and bodywork under the guidance of Professor Andrea Olsen (my mentor at Middlebury College). This experience guided my graduate program at Northeastern University, where I had the opportunity to work with Dr. Herbert Benson (Cardiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital) at his mindfulness training clinic in collaboration with Harvard University.
Then life took me in a beautiful and challenging new direction with the birth of my first son. He was tongue-tied (TT) and Upper Frenulum, lip-tied (LT). He exclusively breastfed until he self-weened at 19 months (just prior to the birth of my second son). Colic, reflux, heartburn, sleeplessness, low weight gain, constant nursing, excessive tension in the body and the need to be constantly held; these chronic symptoms affected the whole family.
I overproduced and recovered from mastitis numerous times during our nursing relationship. It was a painful and arduous road with constant misinformation from the professionals I trusted. I had limited answers from my pediatrician, chiropractors, lactation consultants and nursing support groups (TT & LT training was just not part of the pediatric protocol yet and very few professionals were trained in assessing it properly). Eventually, the more I learned via self-research and through mothering/lactation support groups, the more I realized I wanted to pursue lactation training. As a result, I earned my Certified Lactation Certification (CLC) in 2012. Through this process I actively attended various lactation support groups under the guidance of Sherry Spacco, IBCLC at Newton Wellesley Hospital and Dana Paris Mahoney, IBCLC at Norwood Hospital. I co-lead a BACE-NMC group with Linda Winslow, IBCLC and became an active member of the Massachusetts Breastfeeding Coalition (http://massbreastfeeding.org/about/).
It was during this process that I figured out how the majority of my son’s symptoms were related to Tethered Oral Tissue (TOT) and at this point, both of my children were revised by Dr. Kotlow in Albany, NY.
As a result of this journey, I learned the importance of Craniosacral bodywork & Craniosacral Fascial bodywork for pre & post care and furthermore gained insight into the larger spectrum of the epigenetic profile for future growth and development.
My path in bodywork evolved organically through the struggles that I encountered and through helping my children continue to be grow and be nourished.
It is my goal to help the individuals and families that I work with integrate towards the best version of themselves while honoring and following their innate wisdom. I focus on reducing facial strain and increasing the function of the Central Nervous System in adults, children and newborns. I offer hope to every mother that I work with whose baby has tethered oral tissue and help reduce overall facial strain in their child while supporting their breastfeeding relationship and their breastfeeding goals. I collaborate with other lactation professionals that are working with my clients, to create an optimal care plan.
I am humbled by the individuals that I work with and by the great healing potential of the human body.
Aside from my work, I am passionate about setting intentions in my life, while mothering my sons and our two dogs. I am also passionate about yoga, kayaking, studying herbal remedies, nutrient dense cooking, fermentation, immersing myself in nature, tending to my organic garden and gathering energy by the ocean (born and raised near Cape Cod, MA).
My name is Landen Smith, I am a senior at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. I am working towards earning a degree in Health and Wellness, with a minor in Management.
I grew up about an hour east of Asheville in Hickory, North Carolina. I come from a big family of seven, my father is a chiropractor, so chiropractic and natural wellness has always been an integral part of my life. After I graduate from UNCA, I plan to attend graduate school to obtain my Doctorate of Chiropractic and follow in my father’s footsteps.
Hello! As your CA, I am excited to greet you at AlignLife and help walk you through the beginning steps as your health journey with Dr. Boyhan transforms.
My personal health journey began years ago as I dealt with Chronic Pain through Endometriosis and Fibromyalgia. I began a search for a better way to live rather than dealing with chronic pain on a daily basis. My biggest step was learning that the goal to a better life is to listen in to your own intuition and what your body is trying to telling you. Each part of the body connects and play an intricate role with each other. The key is finding the root, to begin the healing process.
My life and career has taken me on some incredible journeys. My passion is people! Working in the hospitality and management industry has allowed me
to cultivate a true desire to help people in their own journey. The connection of planning hundreds of events, leading teams and managing offices has lead me to the incredible industry of Chiropractic Care.
My family grew up in FL, but my husband and I visited Asheville as if it were our home on many vacations over the years. Several years ago we decided it would be called home for our little family. We have a precious
toddler and one little one on the way. We love to hike, take family walks and visit family and friends when we can. We are truly blessed to live in this beautiful area of WNC. Relationships are important to us, and I’m
grateful to have found the AlignLife family!
