(Health Secrets) Though it looks delicious, potpourri for the holidays is not intended to be eaten. Instead, it is a recipe for a marvelously fragrant stovetop mix which you can use to give your home a wonderful fragrance during the holidays and beyond. You can can also share it with friends and family as Christmas gifts. This real (not chemical) fragrance should last well past the holidays.
Ingredients
One whole orange or just the orange peel*
1/2 cup cranberries
1 Tbsp. whole cloves
3 sticks of cinnamon or a small handful of small pieces of cinnamon
A bit of grated nutmeg if desired
*Note: avoid deep orange colored oranges. Chances are that they get their color by way of a color dye which is carcinogenic but approved by the FDA because the peels are not considered to be among the edible parts of the fruit.
Directions:
Quarter the orange. Put all the ingredients into a saucepan. Fill pan with water.
Place on the stove on the smallest burner, on the lowest setting. Refill water as needed.
This should last all season.
