(Health Secrets) You have probably been hearing a lot about genetically modified foods (GMOs), and if you shop in any of the traditional grocery stores or dine in restaurants, you are eating GMOs. After all, the government wouldn’t let grocers sell any food that is not good for us, would they? Well, yes they would! This is laboratory created food, not food the way it was designed by nature. GMOs are very different from food that comes from hybridized plants. GMOs are the result of mixing plant and animal genes. Frankenfood!!
The jury is still out on the health hazards of GMOs, since no long term studies of its effects on health have been completed. Maybe you are thinking that your food is not GMO because it is not labeled as such. But the reality is that installation of key people at the FDA has resulted in no labeling being required for GMO foods. Recently an initiative to have GMO labeling in California was defeated by the intense pressure of the big agricultural companies who profit from GMOs. Completely ignoring the welfare of the consumer and is all about fattening the bottom lines of these conglomerates, the most notorious of which is Monsanto.
With Michael Taylor in the White House as the senior advisor to the commissioner of the FDA (“Food Safety Czar”), the proverbial fox is guarding the hen house. Before becoming Czar, Taylor was a lead attorney, VP, and chief lobbyist for Monsanto. In the 1990s, he manipulated the FDA and the legal system to make sure genetically modified bovine growth hormones (rbGH) made it to market, while financially destroying small dairy farmers who dared to label their milk rbGH free.
Japan, Canada and some European countries have banned Monsanto’s products, while the USA remains an open market for GMOs. This is due largely to Taylor’s efforts, which include the successful lobbying for GMOs to be exempt from labeling laws.
An Uphill Battle
The playing field for ensuring real food safety by eliminating GMOs as crop, animal, and human genetic contaminants is tilted in the favor of the biotechnology industry. And the threat of GMO crops contaminating non-GMO crops is very real.
Non-GMO farmers whose crops become contaminated from the pollen of nearby GMO crops are being sued by Monsanto for violating Monsanto’s patent rights! This has happened n numerous countries around the world, and very few non-GMO farmers win in court. It’s going to take a lot to level the playing field and tilt it the other way.
Through his Institute for Responsible Technology, Jeffrey Smith advocates consumer education and boycotting. He reminds us there have been positive results in the dairy industry with milk laced with bovine growth hormone disappearing from major market shelves. Too bad most of the harassed small dairy farmers aren’t getting some payback from Monsanto lawsuits.

More and more activists have taken up the fight against patented ownership of the food supply by big business and big government. Our food supply is being permanently and decisively endangered and with it, the future of most living creatures.
Non-GMO Activism Needs You
We can’t leave it up to these two sites and others to go it alone in this battle. Education and mass boycotting are needed to put a halt to this hijacking of the food supply. Writing to members of Congress has been largely ineffective. Petitions to the White House and the President have gone unanswered.
If you have not as yet taken the GMO issue seriously enough to want to do something about it, here’s some information from independent scientific studies which is merely the tip of GMOs’ health-harming iceberg:
An Organic Consumer Association interview of a California scientist and whistle blower revealed that the basic premise of food genetic engineering was proven to be false by the Human Genome Project. But despite the facts, the funding was there, and everyone involved was getting paid, so the “research” continued.
Biotechnologists isolated a virus that demonstrated a tremendous capacity for promoting transgenics between species. This was the cauliflower mosaic virus, or CaMV 35S. It was selected as an agent to promote gene swapping for virtually all agricultural genetic engineering. The biotechnologists assumed that this virus would be denatured in the digestive system, but they were wrong. This CaMV 35S transgenic promoting agent keeps on promoting transgenic activity in our digestive systems once we consume it, putting the friendly bacteria that comprise our immune systems under direct assault!
From West Ontario, Professor Emeritus Dr. Joseph Cummins writes, “It has been shown in the laboratory that genetic recombination will create highly virulent new viruses from such constructions. Certainly the widely used cauliflower mosaic virus [CaMV 35S] is a potentially dangerous gene.”
What To Do
Get involved before it’s too late. Educate yourself and others. See the documentary produced by French and German TV in English, titled The World According to Monsanto. And don’t miss the powerful documentary The Corporation. Educate yourself, pass the word, buy organic and boycott GMOs.
Fight back with your consumer dollars. Make sure your hard earned money goes to benefit you, not the corporations that plan to exploit you. Look into The Organic Consumers Association’s Millions Against Monsanto as well.
The ideal strategy is to create a tipping point of decreased profitability with massive boycotting, to the point where food distributors realize they are losing money with GMOs. Safeguard your future by hitting them in the cash register!
