Diabetes is a serious epidemic in the United States and unfortunately, its rampant growth is most prevalent in our children. Diabetes experts urge us to focus on this growing epidemic to prevent unecessary disability and death. The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) has presented figures that as many as 200 children are diagnosed with diabetes every single day. The diagnosis of diabetes in children has been shown to reduce life expectancy by a morbid 10-20 years.
The overwhelming majority of our society is overweight or obese due to our sedentary lifestyle and addiction to sugar. As we continue to consume more sugar and become more sedentary, our health begins to spiral downward with insulin resistance, accelerated aging, chronic fatigue and mood disorders. As the study above noted, the simple implementation of exercise can have a dramatic reduction in the risk of heart attack, stroke or other complications.
For those of you suffering from diabetes, it is important to make strong changes in dietary intake and lifestyle. Completely eliminate soda forever, increase fruit and vegetable intake, take fish oil supplmentation and a sugar balancing nutrient formulation. Changes in dietary habits and nutrient intake can prevent the dangerous progression of the disease and the potential morbidity.
