(Health Secrets) If you’re not familiar with what juicing is, you may think it means buying apple or grape juice or an occasional V8. But juicing involves more than purchasing juices off the shelf or concentrates out of a store freezer. These may be tasty, but they’re not live food juices.
A live food juice comes from putting fresh, organic fruits and vegetables through a juicer and drinking it immediately. This way, the all important enzymes that are key to nutrient absorption remain intact.
Ed McCabe, also known as Mr. Oxygen, interviewed many health experts while researching for his book Flood Your Body with Oxygen to determine the order of nutrient importance in the human body.
Here’s the consensually agreed order of importance, with oxygen topping the list: Oxygen, water, enzymes, minerals, and vitamins. Notice that enzymes rank just below water but higher than what gets the most press, minerals and vitamins. That’s because without enzymes, minerals and vitamins become nothing more than blood and cellular clutter.
We cook and process most enzymes out of our foods and beverages, but when you do your own juicing, you get all the enzymes in a highly condensed liquid package of more raw fruits and veggies than you can eat in one sitting.
Many sickly and even desperately ill people have turned their lives around and become vibrantly healthy from juice fasting or incorporating juicing into a healthy diet. If you aren’t sickly or desperately ill, you will simply become even healthier and more energetic when you start juicing.
Here’s an uplifting trailer for the documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead, a cheerful, inspiration offered by an Aussie who went on an extended juice fast as he road tripped the USA. You may prefer shorter juice fasting periods of three, seven, or ten days. View it here.
Here’s How to Start
You will need around $300 to buy a good juicer. Health experts don’t recommend high speed centrifugal juicers. Their high speed torquing and heat generation can cause problems for enzymes. They don’t separate the liquid from bulk, and they are hard to clean.
Instead buy a simple slow speed masticating juicer. It’s a little pricier, but it separates liquid from bulk and is easy to clean. The harder a juicer is to clean, the less you’ll want to juice. More importantly, masticating juicers preserve enzymes intact.
Since 2005, we have used the same slow speed Omega 800 series single horizontal auger. The auger is a tapered screw that “chews” (masticates) the pulp and pushes it along leaving the juice behind. Today, the Omega 800 series starts at $230.00 and goes up to $300.00. Shipping is free if you order from the first source listed below.
I am not affiliated with Omega. Just a very satisfied customer. You can also shop Huron and Champion brands for horizontal single auger (cheapest and easiest to clean).
Sure, they’re slower than high speed or even complex vertical double auger machines. But what’s the point of struggling to clean a machine for a half-hour just to save five or more minutes with juicing?
Then you can start basic juicing. Dr. Max Gerson used a base of organic carrots, apples, and some greens with his combined masticating and mashing juicers for his cancer therapy. His therapy is highly successful for those willing to cross the border into Tijuana, Mexico. Here’s more on Gerson.
In 1948, former USC football player, Jay Kordich, was diagnosed with a fatal disease and given only months to live. He went to the Gerson Institute in New York where Dr. Gerson was still practicing before the mainstream Medical Mafia decided his inexpensive, natural non-pharmaceutical therapy was cutting into their business.
After healing completely by cleansing and juicing daily, Jay went on to preach the virtues of juicing for health. In 2005, at the age of 82, he and his wife co-wrote the book Live Foods, Live Bodies, after previously publishing The Juiceman’s Power of Juicing.
Now in her 90s and very alert and lively, Charlotte Gerson continues her father Dr. Max Gerson’s practice by commuting from San Diego to Tijuana, MX. Unlike in the U.S, the land of the free , Mexico’s constitution allows all forms of medical practice to exist without fear of being raided, ruined, and leaving patients to die. That’s why so many alternative and integrative cancer therapies have set up shop there.
The Amazing Variety of Juices You Can Make
As you begin to discover which veggies and fruits are best for whatever health condition you wish to address, you can use one of the three basic sweeteners to offset any bitterness of cranberries or greens like kale. These sweeteners are carrots, beets, and apples with skins and seeds. They all work well together.
We also use cilantro to detox mercury and heavy metals, celery, peeled ginger root to calm inflammation, and even occasional garlic cloves as an antibiotic with our juicer. Some juicing enthusiasts throw in a spoonful or two of a powdered supplement as well. But never add sugar or honey. Just the three natural sweetening veggies and fruits previously mentioned.
As long as organic or locally grown chemical-free produce is available, you won’t have to worry about getting enough vitamins. There will be plenty in your juice.
