(Health Secrets) It is no secret that what your mind thinks describes your body’s physiology. Recent research has changed this from something that could easily be observed to something powerfully supported by physiological data, expanding the focus of holistic health and holistic healing. It has been shown, for example, that every cell of the body has neurotransmitter receptors, a discovery that cements the mind-body connection.
Neurotransmitters are the chemicals that allow us to think and feel. This means that to some extent our bodies are “listening” to our minds. Further, according to Dr. Chopra in Ageless Body, Timeless Mind, every tissue in the body also produces neurotransmitters, showing that the body is actually thinking along with the brain, or as he indicated, thought emerges into our bodies and brains simultaneously. Our bodies react to those thoughts for good or ill
What about toxins, mutagens and other damaging chemicals we encounter? Some 90% of them have to be converted before they become truly harmful, meaning the same toxins in the same person at different times may be harmful or innocuous. The variable appears to be mental and emotional states.
There is no reason that most toxins, carcinogens and mutagens are not detoxified. They should be and could be, but when they are not it is harmful to us. Sometimes we act as though we are victims of these poisons in our modern world, but it is possible that this is entirely backwards. It is possible that the prophet Isaiah was right when he said of our time that we would put good for evil and evil for good, dark for light and light for dark, etc. It is possible that we are victims of very bad thinking through indulgence in dysfunctional entertainment, fear, anger and despondency.
Dr. Bradley Nelson’s book Emotion Code describes techniques for releasing fear and its relatives (such as anger). These techniques can be used to rid the body of the unwanted. As an example, think of severe body odor. We have known that body odor is related to emotions far more than to cleanliness, the colon, liver or anything else. Using Dr. Nelson’s techniques, we can test for which fear variant is creating the body odor and then release that fear very quickly. The odor will then be completely gone. This is not magic or mysticism. It is the release of a destructive emotional pattern that, in this case, was manifesting itself with foul odor production. This can be done through both breath and sweat.
All of the above highlight the need to further explore the spiritual, energetic mind and emotional aspects of health. It is possible that no disease exists totally independent of psychosomatic causes. That is not to say that physiological causes are any less real. Obviously we can, have and do treat with natural healing the physical body and produce healing that way. Rather it is more like the image of a chain with many links. Take out any link and the chain no longer can hold you bound.
Indeed, everything about the different approaches to natural and holistic healing suggests that this is true. One style is not right and another wrong, at least not from a practical application standpoint. Rather, each takes out its link in its own way. If a method really does target a link in the chain that holds you bound, it will also stop the progression of that disease. These chains may be parts of other chains, so that taking out one link may or may not create spontaneous healing of multiple disease processes in the body simultaneously. For this reason, we describe a path to health here. We understand that, the more chains we blow away, the greater the health and life expression.
Without a doubt, one or more links in every chain are psychosomatic, mind-body. Unlike physical aspects, though, psychosomatic links tend to be “key” links. This means that truly dismantling one psychosomatic link in the chain of disease may very well take apart several chains simultaneously. This may be somewhat of a postulate, but it is also more than that. It is an axiom. It is something we are proving and demonstrating as a reality that can be counted upon consistently. We say it is possible that when the proper psychosomatic elements are uncovered, that a broad spectrum of healing will begin to occur simultaneously and spontaneously.
While this process involves several parts (discussed in the course One 5 Subject Notebook on the home page of MadHerbalist.com), anyone can begin to start psychosomatic healing using three simple steps…simple, but not easy, for they represent breaking out of one’s comfort zone.
Step One: Start noticing (maybe writing down in a notebook) patterns where your mental associations clearly control your physiology. This could be things that: put you to sleep, irritate you, make you feel tired, make you feel sick, make you sick, make you sad, make your back hurt, make your hands go to sleep, etc. Even if you think it is a physiological cause, at least remain open to the possibility that it is not a physiological cause alone, but includes, as everything does, a psychosomatic component. Indeed, just acknowledging this possibility alone will spur you toward psychosomatic healing.
It is useful to note that the process of healing psychosomatically has been slowed by descriptions that are aloof and mysterious or even mystical-sounding. The truth is that it is not any of those things, but is very real. It is a moment of seeing how we are reasoning wrongly and choosing the same hard old way as we make every decision, except that we become fully aware of the situation and CAN make the decision differently. The mysterious part of psychosomatic disease is no mystery at all, but is simply a mystery to the person with it. That person is sick because of patterns going on without their conscious knowledge. When the patterns become known, the person is no longer a victim of them
Step Two: Write down what the last thing was that you did or thought before you went to sleep, got irritated, had a panic attack, got a nosebleed, felt sick, felt pain, etc. Use this same plan to write down earlier and earlier steps that occurred right before that and then even before that so that you are led step by step as far as you can go toward the actual moment of origin where whatever you did or had actually began or was triggered psychosomatically.
Step Three: Work on the quality of you. This concept, sometimes called in Oriental philosophy cultivation or culture, is just where you start responding better where you had been previously responding worse. You develop gratitude for people, rather than anger toward them when they interrupt your life in some way. You work based on faith in a higher purpose for this life, or love for your fellow humans, the planet and everything on it.
Gratitude, Faith and Love make up the core of culture. It is where you grow your character, have more integrity, be more open, sociable, kind, helpful, generous and sincere. Engaging in these things will push you higher and allow you to see things more clearly. You will be better and your reactions will be better and you will notice when your reactions are not better, which is how it will save you from a psychosomatic standpoint. While you are at it, avoid news, drama and all garbage entertainment and dysfunctional television. Rise above such things. Avoid all indulgence in fear-based or defensive thinking. Such things do not protect you; they make you lose the opportunity to really live!
These tools are well tested. More detail is available to help, but just starting with these may relieve you of more than you would believe if it were spoken of here. It is simple, and the choices you will make as things come up will be obvious and automatic. We have simply forgotten how to engage in this process, though it is primordial to us. Using it will be key to getting back our natural health.
