(Health Secrets) Plenty has been written about the need to eat a plant based, whole foods diet to stop cancer. This is good advice as far as it goes, but there are other factors in stopping cancer that are equally or even more important than what you eat. These factors are:
- Hormone status
- Sleep habits
Let’s examine each of these factors more closely.
Optimal balanced hormone levels stop cancer
Take a look at the government link below and you will see clearly that cancer is a old person’s disease. It does not usually strike until the levels of major hormones have drastically declined and become out of balance. This means that for both men and women, achieving and maintaining optimal balanced hormone levels is the single greatest intervention that can be taken to stop cancer and most other disease.
In today’s world, hormone decline can start as early as the late 20’s for women and the mid 30’s for men. By the time age 55 is reached, hormone levels are severely depleted and unbalanced. This is the time when cancers begin to grow, becoming detectible sometime in the next decade of life.
As long as women and men have optimal balanced hormones, they are vital, vibrant and reproductive. Nature has a use for them and wants to keep them around. When hormones decline and are not replaced, a powerful message is sent that these people are no longer needed in the great scheme of life.
Hormones control mental and physical well being. Energy, metabolism, brain function, skeletal integrity, mood, motivation, and zest for life are all controlled by hormones. If one hormone is not up to par, repercussions will manifest through all the body systems.
If you are not feeling at your best a large part of the time, chances are pretty good that your levels of hormones are not where they should be, and you will increasingly be at risk for cancer and other diseases. If you have already had cancer, hormonal imbalance is almost a sure thing. Until hormones are replenished and balanced, sustainable recovery will most likely elude you.
The way to achieve optimal hormone balance is to replace diminished hormones to the levels had in the prime of live. Optimal hormone balance with natural and bioidentical hormones can restore vibrant health, the joy of living, the will to exercise, and freedom from worrying about cancer and other diseases. It requires the help of a physician trained in anti-aging medicine or hormone balance. Many conventional doctors have never heard of this kind of hormone replacement, having only been trained in prescribing synthetic hormone substitution drugs, the kind of “hormone replacement” that actually increases the risk of cancer.
There is solid research backing this up. One of the most interesting is a recent study from Sweden that looked at 23,000 women for causes of death. Twelve major categories were identified. Women using bioidentical hormones had a decrease in every single category of death compared to women not using bioidenticals. Main causes of death were stroke, heart attack, breast cancer, and colon cancer. In each category there was a 12 to 86 percent decrease in terms of death.
The medical establishment has spent much time and money to convince us hormones are our enemies, in an effort to have a ready cohort to buy their drugs. But don’t be fooled. If hormones were the enemy, teenagers would be in big trouble. In fact, they are an almost cancer free population, regardless of what they eat.
Sleepless nights linked to early death
While you are sleeping, your body is doing its housework, tiding up cellular debris including cancerous cells. The sleep cycle begins with production of melatonin, and later prolactin kicks in. These two hormones promote the production of macrophages and leukocytes, two types of white cells that clean up viruses, foreign bacteria, and most importantly, cancerous cells.
Each person needs at least 8 hours of sound sleep for this cycle to occur. If sleep is cut short, there is not enough time for adequate production of these hormones, and the body’s housekeepers are not able to do their jobs. With each passing night of inadequate sleep, the immune system becomes more crippled and unable to make the T cells and Natural Killer cells that seek out and destroy cancer cells.
When you stay up late or sleep with the light on, melatonin is lost and the entire immune cycle is thrown off. Light stops melatonin production, so sleeping with the TV on or getting up in the middle of the night to open the refrigerator are actions hazardous to your health. And since melatonin production begins with the coming of darkness, any activity that involves bright light after dark also throws off its production. This is why going to the gym on a fall or winter’s night is not a good idea. Neither is staring at the TV or computer monitor after dark.
A study team from the UK and Italy reviewed documentation from 16 separate studies around the world, involving 1.5 million people over a 25 year time span. It charted the relationship between sleep and mortality. One hundred thousand of the participants died during the period. Findings indicated that subjects regularly having less than six hours sleep were at least 12 percent more likely to die from all causes including cancer than those who were getting the ideal eight hours of sleep.
Unfortunately many women lose the ability to get a good night’s sleep as levels of estrogen and testosterone decline. They either have great difficulty falling asleep, or they fall asleep initially and then wake up in the wee hours of the night unable to return to sleep. When this happens repeatedly, the benefits of melatonin and prolactin are lost, and the terrain is set for cancer to flourish. Replacing and balancing estrogen, progesterone and testosterone is the way to restore the Circadian Rhythm that allows for complete sleep cycles.
