(Health Secrets) When was the last time you viewed your life with excitement, passion, fun, and anticipation? And when was the last time you felt grateful for what you have rather than eager for more? It’s important to develop a few core beliefs that will become the foundation of your life and spark better health in the process. Some people call them values, others call them life priorities.
The first one on my list is to fall in love with life everyday, because love is the best medicine for better health. What does falling in love with life mean to you? For me, it invokes a smile on my face, a feeling of butterflies in my stomach and an overwhelming wave of anticipation of what might come next.
Think about the first time you fell in love. It’s a magical time with a flood of memories that can lift you to a place of euphoria and joy. That is the way life is supposed to be, all the time. Really, you ask? All the time? Yes, all the time. It’s fun and exciting to feel love. Feelings of love offer the opportunity to dream and imagine what life will be like in the future. It’s mystical, yet pleasing. Being in love with life is thrilling! Being in love with life allows us the opportunity to be present in the moment – enjoying just where we are right this second. You see, it’s quite simple – all you have is the present moment.
The past and future don’t exist when we are fully in the present. The present moment is where the good stuff is and it’s up to you to remember to be present in the moment. The purpose of life is to live in joy, and the basis of that joy is freedom.
This means you get to choose in each and every moment how you will experience the gift of life. So, for me, choosing to be present in the moment and dedicating my attention to what is happening right now, allows me the maximum joy. Worrying about the future doesn’t change it and re-living in the past doesn’t change it either. Being in the moment, that’s the only place where we can make a difference!
Life should feel like a never ending vacation. Can you imagine enjoying life the way you enjoy your vacations? Emphasis should be on playing your way through life. You’ve heard it said, and it’s true, no one on their death bed ever wished they had worked more. As you can imagine, most wished they had played more. So my philosophy is to play my way through life, smell the roses, laugh, enjoy the moment, and if I don’t wake up tomorrow I’ll have no regrets.
The best part about falling in love with your life is that you begin to see it through child’s eyes again, where everything is new and possible. You know what I mean! Think about looking at your life with child-like wonder.
Children always have a curious nature and can see and understand things intuitively. Then as they grow older we adults squash their intuitive nature, domesticate them, and tell them to stop acting like children. Well, I’m here to tell you that child-like wonder is a fantastic quality to nurture, encourage, and incorporate into your life. When you look at life through the eyes of a child you see things that aren’t filtered by the adult biases we have learned from society and our culture.
You have been created to know joy, and live with joy. Joy and freedom should be your best friends. Take them with you everywhere! To begin this journey of falling in love with life, create a continuous list of “I love it when…..” And, just keep filling in the things that bring you joy, places you feel joy, past events where you experienced joy and people who bring you joy. Just think of it — pages and pages of situations, key words, gifts, people, places, or ideas that bring you joy. These are things that shift you to a feeling of love!
This list will come in handy to help elevate your mood, change your attitude, shift your energy, and/or leave you feeling better than when you started reading it. The great thing about the list is that it’s a reminder of why you are in love with life!
Go ahead, fall in love with life again. Invite your two new best friends, joy and freedom, to accompany you everywhere. And, most of all embrace and evolve the child-like wonder that changes your perspective and makes your heart sing. I love it when I write about falling in love with life!
