stomach flu3 300x238 Relieve Pain from Stomach Flu or Gastroenteritis Naturally (Health Secrets) Want to relieve pain from stomach flu naturally?  You will be surprised at how easy it is! Gastroenteritis is an inflammation of the intestines and the stomach generally caused by a virus. It can also be caused by a bacterial infection contracted by eating tainted foods. To relieve pain from stomach flu or gastroenteritis, keep yourself  comfortable and stay hydrated until the your body rids itself of the invading germ, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Drinking fluids and eating bland foods like white bread are part of the recovery plan.

Gastroenteritis Symptoms

Regardless of what causes your distress, gastroenteritis symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cramping in the stomach and abdomen, and possibly a fever. If your illness is the result of a bacterial infection your symptoms may be markedly worse. In most cases you’ll have what is referred to as a stomach flu.

Soft-Grains

Foods made from grains can help relieve pain from stomach flu and provide valuable nutrients and glucose, the body’s main source of energy. Products such as white breads, rice and bland cereals are soothing to the stomach and easy to digest. While whole grains are touted for their high fiber and protein content, they are not easier on the stomach; and some are very difficult to digest if you’re not used to eating them. Foods high in fiber can also aggravate diarrhea, making your illness feel worse than it is. MayoClinic.com suggests eating bland, soft grain products such as white bread and rice. Consume foods as high in nutrition as possible; and it’s best they be organic. Sourdough white bread has natural cultures which make the grain easier to digest, healthier and more likely to settle the bowel. Organic white sushi rice makes softer rice, also easy to digest.

After Nausea is Controlled

Nausea and vomiting are often two of the more pervasive symptoms of the stomach flu, and eating white flour products like dry toast made from white bread or soda crackers, also made from white flour, are soothing and help to settle the stomach. Again, what you choose to eat should always be organic, if possible, to help avoid pesticides and GMOs that are now included in almost all growing processes. Avoid adding butter or other fatty spreads that may upset the stomach. You can spread some clear honey or clear jelly on the bread to help settle your stomach.

BRATTY Diet

The BRATTY diet is recommended by health practitioners, doctors and moms when you have gastroenteritis. It consists of bananas, white rice, applesauce, tea, dry white toast and plain, unsweetened yogurt. These foods are all calming to an upset stomach and help restore internal balance and proper digestion. They are all easy to digest and add to the body’s natural defense mechanisms during illness.

Bananas provide potassium, an important electrolyte lost during vomiting and diarrhea. Yogurt add probiotics to help restore healthy bacteria to the bowels. Yogurt should be the whole milk variety, which has less lactose in it and is less likely to aggravate those with lactose intolerance. White rice and toast fill you up without adding too much fiber and stimulating the digestive tract. Always eat both without added fats. Tea provides natural medicinal support depending on what type you chose during your illness. Both ginger and licorice tea are soothing to the stomach and relieve cramping, nausea and heartburn.
